WORKING TOWARDS A BETTER TOMORROW
Community Building Advocates (CBA) is a local advocacy group that provides a support system for clients to have a meaningful input into the development of policies and programs to address their needs and to bridge the gap in HIV services that empower People living with HIV to advocate for themselves through:
- Treatment and Adherence
- Access to Care
- Community HIV Prevention
- Intervention, Education and Advocacy
- Capacity Building & Social Networking
- Partnership with Providers
Our primary function is to ensure that through our work, People with HIV (PWH) play a significant part in the decision-making processes that directly affect their everyday lives. These decisions include planning and implementation of programs and policies that lead to better access and health equity; to empower and support PWH, share experiences, while creating a usable approach for reducing stigma and discrimination.
Primary Function
Education
Educating our community.
HIV Long-Term Survivors face a myriad of interconnected psychosocial, practical, and medical problems rooted in HIV-stigma, aging, ageism, and economic distress that impacts functional health-related quality of life issues. We now know that surviving too can also have trauma-related implications. The legacy of our past is influencing our lives now, and too many survivors are unaware of what is happening to them.
Advocacy
Advocating for our community.
As HIV activists, we hear a lot about “key populations,” disparities” and “bridging the gaps.” The conversation usually revolves around gender, gender expression, race and poverty and the roles they play in people with HIV lives.
Support
Supporting our community
Living in isolation makes finding a sense of meaning and purpose difficult. It contributes to our feelings of invisibility. Isolation accelerates depression to despair that sometimes can lead to self-harm. What do we want our future to be?
Welcome to Community Building Advocates (CBA), a dedicated non-profit organization committed to empowering individuals, raising awareness, and driving positive change in the field of HIV advocacy. At CBA, we firmly believe in the power of community and the transformative impact it can have on the lives of those affected by HIV.
Our mission is to foster a supportive and inclusive environment that promotes education, prevention, and care for individuals living with HIV, as well as their families, friends, and allies. We strive to create a society that not only understands the challenges faced by those affected by HIV but also actively works to eradicate stigma and discrimination.
Through our comprehensive programs and initiatives, we aim to empower individuals with knowledge and resources to make informed decisions about their health and well-being. Our dedicated team of passionate professionals and volunteers work tirelessly to provide a range of services, including educational workshops, counseling, access to testing and treatment, and support networks.
At CBA, we believe that advocacy goes beyond raising awareness—it involves actively engaging with policymakers, healthcare providers, and the wider community to bring about meaningful change. We work diligently to influence policy, promote research, and advocate for improved healthcare systems that prioritize the needs of individuals living with HIV.
We recognize that building a strong, supportive community is essential to achieving our goals. That’s why we foster connections and collaboration among individuals, organizations, and community leaders to build a network of support that extends far beyond our organization’s reach. Together, we can create an environment that promotes acceptance, understanding, and equal opportunities for all.
Join us in our commitment to creating a world where HIV is not a barrier to living a healthy, fulfilling life. Whether you are an individual seeking support, a volunteer looking to make a difference, or a donor invested in the cause, we invite you to be a part of our journey at Community Building Advocates. Together, we can build a future free from HIV stigma and ensure a brighter tomorrow for all.
